Spring 2005, page 3

I want you to meet my grandson, Jake.  I haven't seen this smile in over 2 years.

Terri  was able to send me this picture of Jake.  This is a healthy Jake who is looking toward a pretty good future right now.  No stress; no worries; not so painfully thin; not having to deal with aides who do not understand, nor care, about  his (basic) needs; no decisions that must be made right now; no pain; no gut ache; no nausea.  What a difference one month can make.
btw, he has another UTI.  But it's not MRSA.  I usually don't bother mentioning them anymore as it is, and will be, a part of his life forever.
And he still must deal with his hip surgery.  Yes, the chronic dislocation did not go away.  That is his next surgery.
Thank you for your prayers.

Jake is now allowed up in his chair each day X4, 30 minutes each time.  No new cushion yet, but he is healing quite well.  He was told it would not be completely healed for about 2 years.  He has a huge dimple/hole/pucker at the wound site.  He promised he'd ask the doc about that next visit.  Jake was told before the surgery that he would have this 'dimple' so it is not unexpected.  I just want to know why.

Well, Jake got the word.  He will be discharged from Bethesda Rehab and move into his new home on Monday, June 27th.  He is very excited about this.
He is allowed up in his chair 6X a day now.  He has his new chair and the new cushion.  The chair is a mid-wheel drive.  "Grandma, it can turn on a dime.  I went on the lawn to try something.  First I made sure there were people around... "  it was at this point that I stopped him.  There are some things I just don't want to know.  But since he did not fall out of the chair, or have an accident, I assume whatever he tried worked ok.
